USATF Alabama Association Indoor Track Season

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! Thanks to the hard work of a lot of individuals and, especially, the folks at Celebration Arena and the City of Decatur, there will be Indoor Track in Priceville, Alabama, each Saturday in January 2008!  Here are the details to date. We will be following USA Track & Field rules, including uniforming requirements.  Any exceptions to USATF rules will be published prior to the meet.  Please check this website prior to your meet to see if there are any changes.  We will post any changes by Friday before the meet. Since these meets are open to athletes from multiple states, we will not interpret high school federation rules, nor will we enforce them.  It is up to each athlete to know and follow their State’s rules. USATF’s website and rules can be found at: http://www.USATF.org.

i have a question about athlete's attire. in the usatf rules it tells us that the front and back have to be the same color. lets say you want to wear usatf merchandise to compete in, their competition wear is navy blue on the front and red on the back, would someone be allowed to wear that or not?????

    USATF attire is acceptable

I have a jersey that is solid yellow but has blue writing on the front and back. Could anyone tell me if this jersey would be ok to race in?

USATF Rule 143 on athletic attire Paragraph 1, says: "In all events competitors must wear clothing that is clean, designed and worn so as not to be objectionable. The clothing must be made of a material that is not transparent even if wet. The competitors must not wear clothing that could impede the view of the judges. athletes' vests should have the same color on the front and back. This rule shall be enforced by the Clerk of Course for track and road events and the Chief Judge of each field event." Rule 143 goes on to define rules pertaining to shoes and spikes. The Games Committee has already decided and published that ONLY 1/4 inch Pyramid spikes will be allowed and NO SPIKES will be allowed in the 1500M and 3000M races. Rule 302, Section 3 - Relays, Paragraph (b) says: All participants shall wear a top of the same color. ...The Games Committee shall assign an individual to review colors of team uniforms in the clerking area.

AVise.... I might be wrong on this, but it seems I read that wording is ok in USATF...without any objectionable grammar....seems the example I read was "A Coors Light singlet would not be allowed." Im not too "up" on USATF uniform regulations though.

Is the order of events for the meet on the 6th set in stone? Is there any way the 3000 or the 1500 will be moved so that athletes can be in both events?

    I second the 3000, 1500 move

Good points Willis and Hudman. If there's no change in the schedule for the 3000, 1500 and 800, what would be the timespan between events? If there's not a large number of entrants, would the events be one right after another or a specific time to run allowing some rest? I know from the past Indoor meets that if there's the usual number of flights in either of these events, there was enough time for rest and recovery. Any thoughts about changes in the schedule?

yeah, what about state? how are people going to be able to do the 800, 1600, 3200 all in one day? much less 2-3 hours.

As far as the schedule of events goes - we will operate under the published schedule for the first meet. We'll evaluate how things went after the meet and may revise the schedule for subsequent meets. Bear in mind that this is a one day event - if we move the 1500 then folks wanting to double or triple with the 800 and 4x800 will complain. There is no way to please everyone, so my advice is to choose the events you want to focus on and do your best in them. If that means rotating events week to week, do what you need to do. Also bear in mind, the rest time is directly impacted by the number of participants in the events. Things are looking like we will have a lot entries - and many from outside our state. I just got an email from someone signing up from Charlotte, NC and have received calls from coaches in MS, TN, GA, and even one from St. Louis! Good Luck!

As long as it does not pose a threat to injure you or someone else it is not prohibited.
